Louisville, Ky will never be the same!
Elba, Al—Youth from the Elba High School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently participated in a weekend leadership conference held November 18-20, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Attendees participated in a weekend of trainings and sessions that challenged, informed, and motivated members and their chapter advisors to become leaders through FCCLA. Along with more than 4,500 other members and chapter advisers, Elba High School’s FCCLA chapter adviser, Christina Whitlock, accompanied 10 members to the meeting.
The “You Got the Power!” theme was reinforced in the Opening General Session by guest speaker Aric Bostick, whop inspired attendees to discover the “Power of One” and begin living their dreams today.
Saturday’s agenda involved training in FCCLA’s programs of Community Service.
Dynamic Leadership, FACTS – Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety, Families First, Japanese Exchange Program, Power of One, STOP the Violence – Students Taking on Prevention, and Student Body. Other trainings included presentations about FCCLA’s membership campaign, Be Part of It!, and teaching members how to spread the word about FCCLA: The Ultimate Leadership Experience by using Brand FCCLA. The American Cancer Society, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and March of Dimes also presented collaborative project ideas.
Keynote speaker Rolfe Carawan closed out the meeting with a high impact motivational message, “The Difference if You!,” encouraging attendees to make the most of their powerful leadership potential.
“This trip was a wonderful learning experience for both my students and myself. Everyone was able to learn valuable ways they can contribute to make their community a better place to live. Not only were the students able to gain a great deal of education from the meetings, they were also able to explore the city, it’s heritage and realize that all communities need people helping and pushing to make them better places to live.”
Louisville was one of four nationally sponsored training conferences this fall. These National Cluster Meetings are designed to allow local students and teachers to take advantage of high-quality leadership training opportunities. Meetings were also held in Hartford, Connecticut; Houston, Texas; and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members. It is the only career and technical in-school student organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers and communities.
